RIDERS DESCRIPTION OF THE TRACK
- Slippery in practice and dried out quickly - Tight circuit with jumps close together making timing crucial
QUOTES:
GLENN MACDONALD – Race Team Coordinator
“The opening round of Super X has now cleared the cobwebs and race nerves allowing everyone to see what they need to work on during the series,” said Macdonald. “Tye Simmonds had a really solid Pro Opens debut on the KTM 450 SX-F holding a consistent pace against riders far more experienced in senior racing. He’s only 17 years old racing against guys in their 20s who have all had a bout of racing in America showing the great potential of this youngster.
“The Pro Opens format had two 10 lap finals which gave accumulative points for the series. Tye Simmonds rode consistently finding solid line choices on the track to avoid the collisions and bring home a well deserved fifth place. Tye also rode in the Top 10 Shootout, and put in an awesome display, collecting sixth fastest.
“Kade Mosig had a tough opening round in the Pro Lites but still maintained a never say die attitude. The Pro Lites had two 8 lap finals, in the first, Kade was pushed wide in turn one, and had to battle through the field to finish eighth. In the second final, he got a much better start and was holding a solid position until he came together with another rider in the air on a rhythm section which put him to the deck.
“Kade finished the round 15th overall in Championship. He is only five points out of the top ten, and I am very confident that he will move quickly up the points tally.”
TYE SIMMONDS – Pro Open
“I am fairly happy with the way I rode, and I really enjoyed my first Pro Open race on the KTM 450 SX-F,” said Simmonds. “I made a few small mistakes during the final races which I can only learn from. I was run high on a berm, and ran off the track in the first final, and finished sixth, and in the second final, I got a good start but got caught up in some traffic along the way and finished fifth.
“I know the areas I need to work on so I will be keeping focused during training this week and, I am sure that I will be even closer to the front of the pack next week at Geelong for round two.”
KADE MOSIG – Pro Lites
“I am disappointed with my results for the opening round,” said Mosig. “I qualified sixth fastest, and I know I have the pace to run up the front but I just didn’t get up there. I’ll be knuckling down this week to improve on my results at Geelong, that’s my home State so I know I will have a lot of local support from fans.”
